Molly and Annie

Well its not just us ex-students who are catching up and having a yarn...the old teachers are at it too!!! This picture, taken at Chenganoor yesterday (16 Aug 08), was sent in by my mum. On the right is Mrs Elizabeth (Molly) Joseph, former School Principal (1988 – 99) and English teacher (1970-88). Those of us in her English classes will have wonderful memories of discovering the skill and wit of Shakespeare and the inspiration of classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird

under her keen tutelage! To the left of Mrs Joseph is my mum Mrs Annie Athyal, Barton House Mistress and teacher between 1970-81, who gently navigated her students through the travails and joys of learning Chemistry. We were certainly lucky to have a suite of dedicated teachers at Cotton Girls...It would be great to see pictures of more of them up here on the blog

omg!! OMG !! What a lovely picture. Thanks Leena.

Mrs Athyal, thank you so much, for teaching us how to balance equations and everything else.

Mrs Joseph, That Tiber did tremble underneath her banks, when YOU cried "Caesar."

Nandini, I've been trying to find you, get on face book.

What a great picture..they look so gooood!
Mrs. Athyal..thank you so much for teaching me the intricacies of Chemistry. It seems that I'm actually able to explain to my 8 and 6 year old why water is called H2O.

Mrs. Joseph..To Kill a Mockingbird is still one of my very favorite books. Thank you for instilling the love of a great book, play and team spirit in us all! Love, Veena

Hi Mrs Joseph and Mrs Athyal

How nice to see you both after this many years! I was in your batch of 1975 (Lakshmi Reddy, Priya Iyengar to name a few)

Mrs Athyal, you tried hard to instil Boyle's & Charles Law which never did make its way into me. I remember you telling my mom "Mrs. Venkataraman, its not that she doesnt understand it, she doesnt want to understand it". Your exact words and I haven't forgotton! Quite true! Quite true!

Mrs Joseph, will never forget your poetry classes specially the 'Ancient Mariner' and Julius Caesar. Not to forget 'Jungle Pictures'- Norah Burke(I Think). Loved the way you read it to us.

Hope to see you both one day.

Love
Ameetha Venkataraman

Hello Mrs Athyal and Mrs Joseph! Not sure if either of you read this blog but hope so! Not sure if I was a great Chemistry student .. I have vague memories of doing "something with copper something" with test tubes and bunsen burners in those lovely dark old practicals labs we had .. now the memory seems almost like Hogwarts .. stirring up magic potions! :o)

really nice photo...somehow your Mum looks different to what I remember her...maybe she looks too relaxed now...not having to get students like me to like chemistry :)...I do have a snap of Mrs Joesph with Yasmin and myself...will need to hunt for it and try and get it in...

these snaps are so good...many memories...sad that we had no snaps during our times...

hey Rukshi ask Needra to get on to this site too...

Mrs Athyal, the one thing I can still do is balace those equations...I finally liked one branch of chemistry - Biochemistry...well that made more sense to me that physical and inorganic chemistry...organic was not too bad...

thank you for your support through school...wouldnt have made it if I hadn't started those tutions with you for chemistry...

It is nice to know that you are all doing well in various parts of the world and have not forgotten chemistry altogether. I wish I could meet you all someday somewhere.

Leena,
Thanks so much for sharing photos of Mrs. Athyal and Mrs. Joseph. It's great to see them looking just as energetic as they did 35 years ago! Their love for Chemistry/English was so infectious that we couldn't help catching some of it.

By the way, I notice that you have posted some of the photos from the 1974 year book. Would it be possible for you to post the 11th Std photo from that year book? That was our batch.

Thanks!
Vasanta

I'll never forget Mrs. Athyal or Mrs.Joseph either. Mrs. Joseph was the one who told me not to be a teacher and go into journalism, which I did. And Mrs. Athyal, I remember so many science classes with you: chemistry and physics! I was with Vasanta in Class of 1974, the last batch to graduate in Std. 11.
